What is a Local Area Coordinator?

What is a Local Area Coordinator?

What is a Local Area Coordinator (LAC)?

Local Area Coordinators are NDIS partner organisations. These organisations are funded by NDIA to support planning meetings in a specific geographical region. The Local Area Coordinators (LAC) help people understand and access the NDIS. They also work with NDIS participants to develop and use their NDIS plan.

For most people aged seven years and older, an LAC will be their main point of contact for the NDIS.

The NDIS website refers to a LAC who will connect people with disability to supports, services, activities in their community and other government services. LACs also work in communities to help them become more accessible and inclusive for all people with disability.

It is important to know that LACs cannot approve an NDIS plan, this is done by someone from the NDIA.

Implement your plan – your LAC will help you to find and start receiving the services in your NDIS plan and review your plan – this generally takes place every 12 months.

Review your plan – your LAC will work with you to make changes to your plan through a plan review process.

What is NDIS Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI)?

The NDIS website refers to families and carers of children younger than 7 who have an NDIS funded plan who will work with an early childhood partner. Early childhood partners have experience working with children with disability or developmental delay. The NDIS early childhood approach is based on the principles of best practice in early childhood intervention to achieve better long-term outcomes for children.

– Early childhood partners employ early childhood educators and allied health professionals who help children and their families access supports and services that are tailored to the child’s individual needs and circumstances.
– Early childhood partners also help with connection to other appropriate supports such as community health services, playgroups and educational settings.

What is the difference between a Local Area Coordinator and Support Coordinator?

Support Coordination is an NDIS funded support for people who need extra help implementing their plan. This could be because your plan is more complex and you require a bit more support to get what you need. A Support Coordinator works in a similar way to a Local Area Coordinator and will coordinate services from a range of suppliers or providers, address service delivery issues and develop the capacity and resilience of your support network.
